Spouse was in tears this morning.night
He thought he'd closed in the hens and three five week old chicks last
but when he got up this morning they were all in the garden - except twosuspected
chicks. He looked everywhere, there weren't even any feathers. He
magpies or cats but there was no evidence at all.them,
We've watched these chicks like, well, like mother hens. We've weighed
followed their progress and loved them even though they've now reached thehad
pre-teens, you know, eight yo going on seventeen. He was distraught and
guilty.
Then Mrs Next Door said that they were in her front garden. Her husband
rung our bell and banged on our door at 6.30 am when he saw them but webut
couldn't be woken.
They'd got through the 2" chain link fencing which is fox and hen proof
not adventurous-chick-proof. As I type Spouse is attaching foot high 1/2"you were lucky, they were lucky and hubby learned a lesson he will never
chicken wire to the chain link fencing in all the places where the chain
link is within a foot of the ground. It's bordered by cast concrete by the
way.
<sigh>
Ain''t Nature wonderful!
Mary
