Re: Dorkings and ducks

Very dry here also (SW Ontario) . We had a pretty wet early spring so the
grain and hay is still green and well on its way, but the after frost
plantings haven't poked up yet, large parts of the garden look mighty dusty
and bare. I've been watering small parts of it, radishes, spinach, carrots,
chard to keep the shoots I started indoors alive. My mom lives about 300
km from here and it hasn't stopped raining since spring.

Yesterday I was standing out in the 30c blazing sunshine with the hose,
watering the shoots, when a hummingbird flew up and hovered right beside the
stream, a foot or so from my hand. I adjusted it to make it more of a mist
and he flew right in, stayed there for the better part of a minute, then
landed on the ground at my feet and had a little bath for another 20 seconds
or so, shaking his (her?) little head and wings and then blasted off out of
there. That's a thirsty bird.

Forecast this evening is 80% chance of thunderstorms. Extremely windy right
now. Keeping my fingers crossed (well'll be dry in another week if we
don't get a good dose soon)

Well I ordered my birds and they arrived yesterday. I am now the proud
owner of a trio of Silver Grey Dorkings and a trio of white Indian Runner
Ducks.

They are still locked in their pens with food and water and I will let
them out into the main yard midmorning so they will have all day to
explore the very bare yard. Still no rain here which is making everyone
gloomy. Seeding has stopped and the bottom of the dam is in sight so we
are all praying for some rain. Still, I have new birds so I refuse to be
glum and things could always be worse. :-)
