Re: Dorkings and ducks

We have 3 black Runners and they are the same way, very little
swimming. I've been told by other breeds that this is common ( one
actual uses them for training their herding dogs ). I actually find
them more interesting just walking around the yard with the chickens.

Well as a follow-up it still hasn't rained but we have clouds so at
least the possibility has increased.

My new fowls are going great although still not quiet. The hens and
rooster have settled in well, roosting in their shed right up at head
height on their ladder roost. The ducks have spent nearly all week in
the cage I first locked them in, not coming out at all. They are just
starting to venture around the yard and coming nearer to me when I feed
them so not too quiet yet. Still they are young so hope they will settle
down as they get older. We have cut them out a plastic drum for washing
in although they do not seem overly worried about swimming, just a
little dabble and a dip of the head so they don't seem to be using
hardly any water other than drinking.

All in all they are lovely to sit and watch and talk to and I am
enjoying them immensely.
