7 weeks is a LONG time to go without food
Its also a poor record for something you are expecting to incubate eggs
So neither of you are winning here

So true!

Break her and give the next eggs you want to hatch to something else
This little girl is going to be in a BAD way if she is not already

I didn't realise they could 'broody themselves to death' so to
say.

Oh yes

She did this for a lot of summer last year, but thankfully she was
fine -

urmmm - but has not been able to lay much when she is not broody?

No, not very good, very intermittent

If she is out of condition which is hard to "see" in birds, then she
cannot
lay much
Its often thrid party symptoms that show up problems
That is why its up to us to try and remove all the possible/probably
causes
of problems that are easy to deal with
There are enough other problems without adding to them

<grin>

yep! :-) Thanks for that, that's very helpful. My husband and I have
been discussing your advice and wondering if i should go to a pet shop to
get a suitable cage or if he should try to make one. As you can imagine he
prefers the former I prefer the latter - either way it will be worth it and
can (and almost certainly will) be used again many times in the future.
