Re: Need to catch our rooster

We have no experience. We have only had these chickens for a few
months. When he is roosting, will he be more docile and less likely
to fly? He and our two hens all roost on a 4 ft. bar that we have in
the coup and they are pretty close when they roost. Will we be able
to accomplish this without disturbing the whole group? We just don't
know much about chicken behavior. THanks for any help.

Our rooster free ranges except for night times when he comes to our
coup to roost. He has a ball of monofiliment fishing line tangled
around one of his feet and we want to try to catch him to remove it.
Any suggestions of how we can catch him? He is a small bantum rooster
and not aggressive. He just runs every time we try to catch him.

catch him when he roosts at night

My concern is, we've tried to raise them together...we've read in Gardening with Guineas that they should do well...that the Guineas will fly out of the hen yard in the morning and then back in in the evening to roost in the chicken house...our experience has been that it is hard to keep the Guineas out of the chicken yard....they will not fly out, we open the gate and they file out each morning...eventually they end up back in the yard and we open the gate and let them out again...This would be somewhat OK BUT, they tend to bully the chickens a bit...actually I think I'd like to have them just roost in the trees at night and keep them away from the chickens.. ... Some never roost in trees, others will roost way up from a very young age and others just think they are hens, even to laying in the nest boxes instead of a well hidden nest way out in the bush. ...
