Perhaps that's the problem. Spanking is now considered child abuse. I
wonder how many kids now remember what the lessons were when they got to
sit in a chair for 15 minute "timeouts" Yet 40 years later..you still
remember that spanking!

Spankings were saved for only _very_ severe offenses...
I agree that there are other methods of child discipline, but there is
nothing wrong with spanking when appropriate as long as it's used
properly and not over-used.

I don't resent my parents for using it. Not at all.......
I don't understand what the big deal is. It's been used effectively for
hundreds of years and millions of people did not turn out to be violent
criminals because they got a few spankings as a child.

I can assure you that once you've carried out the threat of a spanking,
kids will listen more when you merely use it as a threat as they know
you mean it and there are times when, with some kids anyway, nothing
else really works.

Suspension of privileges never made a very great impression on me or my
sister. We just found other ways to occupy our time. Spankings made a
lasting impression and built respect.

If your kid never needed it and you were able to raise a good productive
citizen without using corporal punishment, then more power to ya, and
your kids! But nobody has a right to condemn anyone else that finds it
to be necessary. All kids are different and there are honestly some that
just will not respond to anything else!
