Thank you

Thank you so much for your kind reply in answer to my question about
why my hens are loosing their feathers. And, more thanks for the info
on feeding them. I am a grandmother who has had birds off and on my
whole life, but never paid much attention to how to feed them. I do so
thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I have been researching ways to get rid of feather mites should it be
determined that they are the cause of the problem (and most likely they
are). I haven't been able to find, though, if they live off the host,
such as on nest boxes, perches, etc.

In answer to the woman who has the attack rooster...fried chicken! We
have had such roosters in the past and have tried various means to
dealing with them including using a large club. While the club worked
for a while, they got smart in a hurry and when they saw we had the
stick, they left us alone. Then, when we forgot the stick, we were
attacked again. We had the same problem with a male goose. He and his
mate were given to some friends..but, in all honesty, the only cure for
an agressive rooster is, as others have said, soup!

Another question..do we treat only the infected hens or the whole
flock? Since we live very near a bird refuge, we have an overabundance
of wild birds/wild ducks/geese in our area. I am wondering if we
should be concerned about avian flu this fall?

Thanks again to all who offer advice.

Kitty
