on a semi-related note, anyone know why only one of my now
6 remaining roosters perches on a roost at night? the 5
Orpingtons i have left huddle together on the floor in a
corner, ignoring the roosts. i know they can't fly at all,
but they could easily hop up the slanting roost.
how tall is it?
the one the Spotted Sussex uses is almost 4' off the floor.
the other one is a leaning ladder type, 4' wide & 4' long, but
the top rung (of 4) is only about 2.5' off the ground. the
Orps sleep next to it or under it, rather than on it. it was a
favorite of my bigger breed girls when they were in that coop.
before the Orps grew up,, i thought the Spotted Sussex was a
huge rooster. he has longer legs than the Orps, but they're
taller & much broader than he is.
Some big breeds just seem to prefer to roost on the floor -
but very low perches and persitance usually works
Its better for them to be on the perches as they are less
likely to damage their keels
should i pick them up & put them on the roost then? they're
an exceedingly dense set of boys :)
i wish i could make up my mind which blue rooster i want to
keep...
