Re: fresh turkeys

The butcher DID advice me on how to handle the bird. I was simply
trying to confirm his answer. After all I did not want to poisen my
entire family on Thanksgiving.

BTW, I have never heard of hanging any poultry product before, that
must be a UK practice.

The only point to hanging meat is to relax the muscle, not flavoring.

If you know the finer points of butchery -- why are you asking us?

Mind you any butcher I know would argue with you, but thats beside the point

Have you asked the farm you bought the bird from whether or not they have
alreayd hung it or whether it was a fresh kill?
If you picked it up as a fresh - within hours - kill and pluck then you are
probably fine having kept it near freezing for the rest of the week

If they were doing a great job for their customers one might expect they
would be able to advise you on the proper care of their product - ie what
to do with it for when you are eating it ?
