Almost 2 months ago, all 6 stopped laying, within a day of each other.

This morning, I have an egg! Hurrah! But is it safe to eat these "first
returning eggs". Is there a chance they could have been festering, partly
formed, in an oviduct somewhere?

No, there is no chance they've been festering anywhere. Eat them and
enjoy. So many ways to cook them. Softly boiled, with toast fingers to dip
into the yolk. Fried, with bacon and sausages. Poached, on toast, or on
fish.
Scrambled - nicer if you put grated cheese in and maybe a hint of chives.
Hard boiled. Eat them cold as they are but they are wonderful halved in an
authentic Indian curry with tomatoes and spinach served with naan bread or
rice.
