You probably better clarify WHICH species you mean; I'm guessing
chickens, but it COULD read that you meant foxes :)

Proper foxes are animals to be admired.

um, millions of australians would disagree :-) importing foxes
deliberately is just number 29694 on the list of Unbelievably Stupid,
Harmful Things English Colonialists Did.

You mean your ancestors?

<VBG>

not mine, baby :-)

one sometimes wonders what it would be like here if the french had colonised
australia instead. probably, there wouldn't be foxes. but there'd be some
other problem instead. it was the mindset of the times. sigh!!!

They hunt nocturnally and as long as > we, as poultry keepers, maintain

range and the foxes get on with their own lives.

Urban fox, which was the subject, hunt in broad daylight. Even the best
husbandry can't protect our poultry. We had several birds killed, all
during the day and never eaten, just killed. We spent a large amount of
money, time and effort to build a foxproof fence before our hens were safe
from the local pests. Our daughter has had many of her hens and ducks
killed during the day too and she's up a Welsh mountain. Those birds
weren't eaten either. you can't adequately fence in her land.

being self-interested types, we say hens are good & foxes are bad. maybe
it's just not like that at all in the scheme of things (which isn't all
about us.) but anyway. i'm a human - i deplore foxes!!!!!!!!!
kylie (roald dahl probably has much to answer for!!!!)
