Not ridiculous, it's what we've done. It's illegal now in England so
of course we shan't do it again ...
<nose growing>
It is illegal to bury animals?
Yes in most parts of the UK
What about dogs and cats? And if
they're o.k., what about pet birds like parrots? And if they're
o.k . . .
Poultry and Waterfowl are covered under DEFRA and EU regulations for
livestock
Some of us have pet sheep but they are covered under the same regs
I understand "burying livestock" probably isn't a good practice on a
large scale, but . . . what are you supposed to do with them?
There are collectors all around the country to effectively dispose of them
There are incinerators that do the job properly.
Considering the explosion of poultry keeping in the UK its much better for
them to be disposed of in this way than have birds which have probably died
of something infectious to other birds being buryed in back gardens to be
found by the first fox that comes along and then strewn around the
countryside where they can infect more wild birds.
I can just imagine
telling them, "Oh, and by the way, bring Tammy or Peggy up here so I
can wring her neck and cook her for dinner when you come back up to
the house!"
Well - there are lots and lots and lots of people who are now wanting to
raise their own meat.
Its sensible not to name stock you are going to eat but at least you know
what sort of life its had
