SCIENTISTS at the Roslin Institute are to breed chickens that produce less
excrement, it was reported today.

That would be a shame.

Yes, it would. I want that particular byproduct to put in my own
garden!

It is hoped the work will also lead to a reduction in the smell of chicken
droppings.

Unless you put your nose to a dropping it doesn't smell.

LOL!

Of course, if you have chickens in an intensive, battery house it will smell
... is this a method of making battery rearing acceptable?

Anything for a buck - or pound.....

A spokesman for Roslin - which is fame for creating Dolly the sheep, the
world's first cloned mammal - said: "Nitrogen and phosphorus are an
important source of pollution in the terrestrial and aquatic environment.
"Reducing excretion would reduce the pollution and enhance the immediate
environment for farm personnel and have aesthetic benefits in poultry
facilities."

Oh, yes, it is.

Mary

An important source of pollution when you cram as many birds as
possible together, but if they were raised via other methods....oh,
that's right, we're talking money here..
