Can I ask why you only let them out for such a short time?
If you have a large back garden I would really recommend you let
them out all day.

The garden is about 8metres squared, part concrete, part lawn and a
couple of flower beds with lots of pots. The reason I don't let them
out for long is because I am afraid they will completely decimate my
garden.

eeek -- I fear you have too many birds for total potential area.
Sorry
I would be tempted to say -- cut down to three birds and see how that works for a year around.

Create a number of "play park" areas -- sacrificial places of deep bark and at least one covered area [think coffee table covered in lovelies such as clematis] over areas of sand that they can dust bath in all year around and can sulk in through the winter.

How big is the henhouse?

I ended up putting clear(ish) plastic roofing over the whole chook-run because it got so gross and gluggy and stinky with rain, and they like having outdoor as well as indoor scratchable material, which you can't have when it gets soaked.
