Almost every duckling is capable of swimming with or without Mum

I never said they couldn't swim. What I said was that going into a
pond might be an issue of not being familiar or comfortable with the
water depth because it's usually Mom or Dad that takes them to the
pond the first time and shows them it's okay. My daughter's ducks
will go in the pool in the front yard because she showed it to them
when they were very young and put them in it. They will NOT go in the
pond though is is clean and turtle-free. They seem apprehensive of
it.
