Last night my four hens all sat on top of the run and were
reluctant to enter run/house.I had to pick them up and encourage
them .Tonight three went in and one stopped on the run again, this
hen i have just broke from broodiness a couple of days ago.I am
not worried about them just interested why they might do this. The
hen has has not been altered in any way and they always have gone
to bed :-) on there own before. Any ideas.

Hi Jill ,the hen that was still out tonight is a light sussex, she
has just finished being broody.I have 2 light sussex,2 leghorn
excheqeurs.
Thanks keith

Jill is asking you if your hens could have been frightened by any of
the predators she mentioned. Not what breed they are ;-)

sorry -- too quick
A house that has been visited by a strong smelling predator like one of the
small mustelids is one common reason for birds to be suddenly wary.
And, yes, Red mite would be another strong possibility. especially as one
birds has been broody.

Poultry Shield is one of the most effective, and non "chemical" ways of
dealing with them. Its a natural dessicant so dries the little blighteres up
and their eggs and being a spray on liquid you can get into every nook and
cranny.
The house needs to be absolutely soaked in a 20% solution of the stuff.
We use it as a routine and have few red mite problems. but plenty of
customers have saved their house using it.

I have not had experience of Duramitex but would strongly believe Tina if
she recommends something from experience.

If you have a felt roof on your house -- get rid of it.

Its been a horrendous year for bugs of all kinds -- so warm and wet across
the country so you are in good company!!!
