snake bite

Hi, All!
Have had a bout with one young goose. She suddenly went missing for a
day or two then showed up in the barn. Did not want to go out. Then
she moved to the pond where she spent most of the day or in the tall
weeds about one end of it. She had a soft swelling in the crop area,
staggered walk, salivating. I thought it was her crop and treated her
accordingly. No improvement.
She just started eating and improving on her own about a week later.
Then I noticed feathers amiss on her face. Upon investigation, they
were covering two deep puncture wounds about an inch and a half
apart. Hmmm... like a snake bite.
That must have been a good-sized snake, probably poisonous, to leave
marks that far apart.
For anyone who might know, did her symptoms seem consistant with snake
bite or am I looking at two seperate issues with her?
She is recovering well, swelling is down, she is eating, not
salivating, still slow to follow the others and wears out quickly.
She obviously lost a bit of weight.
I wouldn't worry so but she was hatched out at the school and is my
grandson's "pet", named after his "girlfriend". The kids ask about
her all the time. She thinks the class aide is her momma!
Also, how best to put weight on her without putting her digestive
system in turmoil. Any takers?
