At the end of my rope!

Hi, All!
As many of you know, I live on a small farm (33 acres) and raise geese
among other creatures.
This summer I lost my elder gander who gave his all defending young
against coyotes. That means I lost @ twenty years of "goose sense".
To make a long story short, the now alpha male has bad habits that are
making me crazy. Right now he and his harem (4) are locked in the
barn. Keep in mind that they are Pilgrim geese, listed as a "rare"
variety that I have kept for many years. Docile, good layers and
parents.
I live on a county road (55 mph). The house and barn are less than 50
feet from said road. This gander insists that the only real estate
worth having belongs to my neighbors across the street (one acre of
mowed grass, no water). I have 33 acres, three ponds, and water
troughs! After listening to the courteous motorists honking at the
idiots, I built a new pen for them. HA! Didn't take them ten minutes
to escape and head out again (still not sure how they are getting
out).
I have tried penning them and locking them in the barn as punishment
every time they venture into the road, but it's obviously not getting
through their thick skulls. The fence I put up along the front of our
property does not stop them either.
Before I build them a tractor to live in, does anyone have ANY ideas
how to stop them from annoying the motorists and neighbors? I've
never had any birds so obstinate! And I really prefer to keep them
free-range during the day.
Thanks for listening to my ravings!
