Oh Kathleen... It's simple
The grass is always greener on the other side of the road.
Lets see, you have four geese... Christmas goose, thanksgiving goose,
easter goose, and one for a non specific dinner ought to take care of
the problem..geese are too messy to keep in a barn. They poop
voluminously. If they won't stay on the premises here they make a great
dinner...Pilgrim geese for thanksgiving...mmmmmmmm..
Hi!
Well, you sound like Hubby. But, as I said before, they are "rare
breed" geese. Sometimes they lay in the late fall, too, which is
nice. Some of these birds produce nearly 180 eggs a year, and that's
phenomenal for a goose. Especially since they are smallish birds with
LARGE eggs. So I don't want to get rid of them.
The fertilizer that they leave in the barn gets cleaned out and added
to the compost bins, same as that from the other bird houses, so it's
not a big deal.
I'm an old softy when it comes to birds. Ever since my first canary
I've had birds of one sort or another-wild or domesticated. I've
raised wild robins, doves, and finches from egg to release as a
child. These days I just keep (usually) sensible ducks and geese.
BTW, that's what happened to the excess Embden geese we had.
Delicious!
