Thankyou so much. I'll keep reading to see for more information. But
everything has been very helpful so far.

I would like to ask another question also; Will the chicken i have now
suffer from loneliness or anything like that? Grief? Depression? She
seems okay this morning, i dont know though, i have this image in my
head that shes looking for her, as do i. It was just the three of us
as a gang, its very sad that we've lost one. Shes not very noisy
either, or jumpy like she usually is. Replies are greatly
appreciated.
Thankyou

you're asking questions that have no known, real answer. we know that dogs &
elephants (for example) grieve the loss of particular individuals, but i
don't think there's an answer (yet?) as to whether chickens grieve for a
lost individual. they really aren't sentimental birds as a rule ;-)

she would be feeling the loss of a companion of her own kind, though,
because that's how flocking animals are. they also do seem to be awfully
attached to their own flock, even when their flock is mean to them. for
them, it's somewhat unthinkable to be a loner, because chickens just aren't
like that (although roosters can be). she's probably down in the dumps today
because she's the only chicken, regardless of whether or not she misses her
friend from a personal point of view.

i think she'll be _much_ happier with a new friend :-) (and so will you).

That sounds very correct. My circumstances currently make it much
easier for me to give her away. But i sob just at the thought of it. I
don't want to be selfish though, and although i know that i can buy
another chicken, it would be very difficult for a list of reasons.
