protecting birds from coyotes

where I live, you are allowed to protect your livestock, and that includes shooting coyotes, dogs, and anything else
The problem with shooting is that unless you have a laser sight and are a good aim, if you miss, you can't always be sure where your bullet will go.
there are also leash laws and domestic dogs that belong to someone should be leased or confined to the owners property.
If I suspect coyotes, I have taken either ground beef, or a steak, soaked in ethylene glycol (aka antifreeze) and left on the perimeter of my property. should a coyote take the bait, he will carry it away someplace not to be heard from again.
If you catch a coyote on the property and can shoot, do it, but if you know they come but don't know when, then using bait seems to work
On my property, I have an inner perimeter and outer perimeter fence. All the birds are kept inside the inner perimeter. Should a coyote or predator penetrate the outer perimeter I am free to take whatever action necessary to protect my flock of hundreds of chickens turkeys, geese, guineas and peacocks
