Aha. You may be onto something with regard to the most recent. It
was terribly hot, and there she sat in the corner of the chook house
where no passing breeze could have reached her. I was quite
concerned about her at times, esp as she hardly ever got off to go
for a drink let alone food.
They can simply cook them in those circumstances ;)
I hear of similar tales over here some summers when fokls down south have
these really hot spells.
In re-telling about their broody they are so proud that she sits SO tight,
and you realise that she has not been a good monitor of the ambient
temperature.
A really good broody in those situations is one who worries you that she is
not on the eggs 'enough' <G>
It can also be a very good thing to giev her a sod of grass, turned upside
down put beneath the nest. This was an old ploy to give the nest some
humidity
