So what is an ideal ratio for a self sustaining poultry flock? I thought it was about 1:5 but could someone refresh my memory please?

Many thanks
Hi Ginny,
I find that 1 to 12 is Ideal. I have a few fights break out between my roosters but there is only a quick kick up the bum .No full on war.
If there is full on war the rooster that starts it dose not last long.
And if I have to introduce a new rooster in to get new blood line .I get 1 that is 8 to 12 weeks old so he mixes in OK.
Hope you had a good australia day.

Well I need to cull a couple then. Just need to decide which ones go in the pot :)

Had a lovely quiet day at home - no crowds, riots or noise so quite enjoyable. Hope you had a lovely day too.

When do you get your goat?

She has the billy in with the goats now so it will be aprox 6 months . I have been looking for a goat in milk for a while . I do not mind the age as long as it is still go a full mouth. The people around here sem to only have goats to look at and are to wild to handle . My friend is looking out for me. I could milk 2 of my sheep BUT finger & thumb milking is a killer.
peggy

I have been looking for a milking goat also. I have a young doe with a male(buck) kid at foot but her udder is not much bigger than a sheep's really and she is NOT quiet although I can handle the kid now. Don't think she will ever be much of a milker though even if she does quieten down.
