Hi Group,
I have recently lost my female Indian Runner duck so thought I'd get
some new ducks, I currently have two male khaki campbell ducks and a
few days ago brought two female muscovy ducks, only thing was the
person getting rid of the ducks also had a male muscovy and wouldn't
sell them unless we brought all three.
All the ducks are together in a pen, they have food, water and a
pond, and a house for sleeping in, my khaki's seem to be keeping
their distance from the other muscovy male and the two females seem
to be staying with the muscovy male.
The only thing I would warn you against is getting some smaller females of
other breeds and leaving the muscovy drake in with them in the breeding
season. Musky boys are, ahem, b*nking machines, and are likely to drown a
little duck on the pond just by their sheer weight when they try to mount
her (it's much easier for ducks and geese to mate in water.) I learnt this
the hard way, I had a gander drown a duck once trying to mate her in the
water. I hadn't expected that a gander would try and mate a duck, but he
did.
