the big problem is that eggs should not be posted

I agree. This is why I always collect my eggs, but if someone decides
it's too much trouble and chooses to have them posted, then sole
responsablity lies with them, no one else.

How many none hatching batches would you need to hear of Chirpy before
you'd accept there is a problem with the eggs? (I'm talking of batches
which don't hatch in with Ebay eggs that do hatch)

Does it matter if anyone here accepts that there is a problem with the eggs?
Are you here to get help figuring out what eggs are likely to hatch or to
trash someone's reputation? It seems to me reading Chirpy's ad that he's a
beginning breeder himself (his oldest hens started laying in August), and
he's probably learning the ropes as he goes. He may not know how to select
good eggs for hatching either.

My personal criteria when selecting a hatching egg:

1) Relatively large
2) Naturally clean
3) Smooth, even surface, preferably slightly shiny unless I know that
particular type of egg isn't usually shiny
4) Visually attractive

The latter is because I sell eggs to farmers' markets, so when people open
up the box I want them to see eggs that are distinctly different from
storebought eggs. So the more attractively placed speckles, the better.

I've had pretty good rates of hatch under my hens, but I made un unfortunate
choice in one of the hens I used, and I lost almost the entire clutch to a
chickicidal maniac mother hen. The two surviving chicks I popped under
another hen who happened to be broody, and she raised them until they were
six months or so old. I love that hen :-)
