You expressed surprise that buyers leave feedback before hatching.Don't you only have 30 days from when you pay to leave feedback?
That would seem to contradict your "once you've set them you've
accepted them" philosophy.
Hmm - seems he is now abusing the seller on Ebay feedback
ABUSING!!!! He left a lie and negative feedback and I responded to that - AFTER verifiying that others had zero hatchings under controlled conditions.
I thought he wanted to learn, if appearances are anything to go by maybe he wanted to smear someone's reputation because he made a mistake.
The only mistake I'm aware of was of not emailing other purchasers before buying these eggs. What are you suggesting?
There is a retaliatory accusation of being in league with another seller,
He informed me by email that the other seller was conducting a "vendetta" against him so I emailed her - and looked at the feedback. It seems she got bad results from the eggs and left him an honest balanced very restrained NEUTRAL. He immediately responded with a full blown NEGATIVE. I have come to the conclusion that she is the one who was wronged.
which is a silly thing to start, but that others sellers self reported feedback in sales descriptions seems to be well awry - most of the numbers do not seem to have existed
You can't leave feedback for a number that doesn't exist!! The item only shows up for a certain period of time - but I don't think that applies here. What can't you see?? All the items have a live link titled "view item" to the right of them. Does this not work for you?
and there is certainly nothing relating to the transactions in the buyers accounts.
If the feedback is there the transaction existed. Look again.
I am not Ebay savvy at all but I could
not find anything to match up, even with the brother-in-laws account. They have even used the same number for different transactions. Weird.
I'd politely suggest the problem lies between chair and keyboard in this case.
Rumblings says there was a 0% hatch rate to us but the feedback says 1 hatched
That is an absolute lie and partly why I feel so angry. He is clearly trying to smear my reputation and he left (dishonest) feedback first. I candled one egg out as definitely clear at an early date and did not retain it so did not return it. I decided to leave the rest to the end whatever and none of them chipped.
I told him I'd candled one out early on and the others had failed. He blamed me until I pointed out the other eggs had hatched then grudgingly agreed to replace if I returned the 5 remaining eggs and paid £6 postage. I'd have been very happy if one HAD hatched.
and that there were formed chicks in the others that were returned.
I returned them without candling again so can't comment, results from other Ebay buyers show similar results - ie either clear or dead chicks at chipping time.
So it seems possible that he has also made mistakes.
That would be the obvious conclusion if it wasn't for the fact that I and most other buyers had other eggs in the same incubator - which did OK. In my case I had - both mine and from Ebay eggs in and got the following results: Light Sussex 5 out of 6, Silkies 3 out of 6, Rhode Island 4 out of 6, Indian Runners 3 out of 7, the Barred Rock eggs 0 out of 12 (two separate batches/incubations for the barred rock eggs). My own eggs surprised my by giving only 4 out of 8, but the later batch (put in with the replacements look like giving 5 out of 6 so perhaps the cold weather was to blame.
He has clearly not candled them before hatching and not responded to the suggestion that they should have been rested correctly too.
Your advice conflicts slightly with that given on most sites and by several Ebay sellers. If you want to discuss that here goes:
Chirpy and most of the others who give advice suggest leaving the eggs at room temp for 24 hrs (not a few days as I think you suggested elsewhere), pointy end down. I did this and altered the angle every few hours - ie tilting one way then the other.
The breeder has certainly done a lot of homework, has birds from good sources, whom he has probably learnt a lot from. He has been breeding seriously for 4 years. No-one gets it right all the time. And he will have learnt from things himself. Not being rude to customers, whatever the provocation, would be a high priority one. Chances are if he hadn't reacted that way, rumblings would not have got so upset.
He arrogantly assumes all problems are due to the post or to incubation errors. These no doubt exist and will affect many results, but he can't appreciate that if his eggs consistently do badly compared with others then a conclusion can be drawn.
