I've read a few books belonging to a friend and have learnt most of

like to get an all-purpose chicken-keeping reference book and I
wondered what others would recommend - preferably something written
from the UK point of view since our weather conditions are so
different from some other parts of the world.
Most of the UK books are southern centric, dry conditions and over simplistic.
There are few new ones that are good -- especially those in the cheaper end - there are some which are really really bad.
Written by fluffy bunnies who have owned half a dozen chooks for a few years and think they can write a book.
One is definately the Wrong Way to keep chickens! I think I found one page without an error on it in the whole book.
Katie Thear's books are pretty well sound, and so are the Gold cockerel ones, at least there is less to argue with, the folks behind them have integrity and experience. The same applies to Victoria Roberts, and David Bland. Those are the better authors, with sound backgrounds.
Some of the content is out, or over simplified, or southern centric, but much less than the more recent ones.
The USA ones can be thorough but confusing as there is a lot of difference in the veterinary side and in materials and feed available.
