sounds very much like red mite and the best solution with a house of that
vintage and type is a celebratory bonfire for Lughnasadh - a time to give
thanks for the years harvest, in crop and achievements.
And a time make sure that all preparations for the coming autumn and
winter are in hand.
Or find whatever good excuse you can for a "controlled" fire
Serious infestations of red mite can be really hard to eradicate and do
drag your birds down.
They will have been accumulating in the timbers and between roofing and
wood for generations and can develop into astonishingly colossal numbers
completely unseen.
I would hesitate to burn my chicken hut down because of red mite, they can
be controlled without such a radical solution.
