Hot chicks, I mean chooks

I shouldn't say this and if I were halfway tactful about other people's weather I wouldn't, but...
Yesterday was SO hot I didn't know where to put myself. The chooks likewise but then it turned out that the reason they were all inside the roofed run wasn't to shelter from the sun, because it was overcast with some contribution from Australia's smoke I believe. It was because with the red mitey house barrier'd off I'd made a hole in the wire netting for them to go in and out to the adventure playground and it was too much for the wee chooky brains and they couldn't cope.
"Oh, is that a hole? Yes, or perhaps no, or perhaps yes, oh dear I'll have to go away and think about it. I've thought about it, now I'll have another look at it. Is it really a hole? Does that mean I could get through it? Oh dear, I'll have to go away and think about it..... "
Eventually I opened the door to the extension on top of the place where the rabbit and his chooks are currently residing and the light ones flap-jumped down and I lifted the heavy ones down as they came to the doorway so they wouldn't hurt their feet. They found their way in at night but this morning were almost as slow getting out.
The night was still hot. I'd kept the house coolish by keeping windows shut and covered but the workshop where the roosters spend the nights was hot. The HW cylinder needs an insulating wrap but getting at it would be a major enterprise. And with the cat box now separated by a plastic divider to stop bullying I wasn't prepared to put them in there... so how to keep them quiet????
The bathroom. A blanket rigged up at some height over the cage to darken and to muffle noise without trapping heat. The fan and radio on to provide background noise so that they wouldn't notice and respond to "significant" noises by crowing.
All fixed up, and then I realised I hadn't had a shower and it was going to be a real hassle dismantling it all again, and boy did I need a shower! My main activity all day had been sweating. But I had to make do with a basin wash because there's only so much energy per day, I find.
