It's far too expensive to keep rare breeds for me with the cost of
food.
Wouldn't matter so much if I was up to wringing their necks when they
became
unproductive. I've only done it twice when birds were suffering (and
only
because my neighbour who usually did the biz was too drunk to do it
both
times.)
It's not something I found easy so I prefer to let my old girls live
out
their lives. Hey, I will be old myself one day!

I can do the actual killing no worries, but I have enormous difficulties
passing the death sentence on a bird I've known for years.

How do you kill a long necked duck?
I've nearly had to do a couple of mine in the last year, but gave them
another few days to recover, and they have got slightly better. I lost
an Aylesbury hen last week, she had been limping for a long time, though
always able to get to the feed in the morning and evening, last Friday
she was well off, hardly moving, and struggling to swallow food, so I
left her in the house with fresh bedding and water close by, but she had
keeled over and died by the time I had got home.
Alan.

I've never killed a duck, a friend of mine rears geese for the table. She
takes them by the legs so their head is on the floor, puts a broomstick at
the back of their head, stands on each end and pulls.
I'm not recommending this but it could work if you needed to kill a duck.
