I don't think it's a hen pecking the hole, they normally don't leave it at
just one peck!
It's more likely to be small fault in the egg. Just make sure they get
enough grit (calcium/oyster shell etc.), and see if that improves the
situation.
I've kept chickens for years and every now and again seem to get a chicken
that will lay a 'holed' egg, like you describe.

Hi all,
Don't know if this is something anybody else has experienced but in
the past couple of months one of our birds has picked up the habit of
pecking (I assume its a peck) a single hole in the end of each eggs.
It (they?) do no more damage than that but it means we are loath to
use the damaged eggs in case of infection.
Is this a common problem?
What could be done about it?
(No idea which hen is doing it - our of 6)
