But on the other hand, there is that nagging issue of the poor
middle eastern and caucasus region typing.

I traced specific HLA types linked to *0303 and *402 from europe
to the far east, these 2 are in incredibly high frequency in the
regional population of northern Japan along with those
haplotypes, namely 0303, but OTOH that path goes right through
the middle east, the little sample that I have shows that other
haplotypes were picked up and carried into central asia and
beyond.
The bugaboo in this, according to my theory of the comma shape
african preexpansion, is if there is a connection between south
africa and this haplotype, the the most likely opportunity for
its expansion is during the earliest exoafrican expansion more
than 100 kya. But it did not seem to make its way to the
southeast, one variant of 0303 did and appears to be major
contributer of this rather rare global allele in Japan. But the
second and this 0402 appear to be in that low frequency catagory
of genes that localize to the southern central european region.
There may be diffusive flow from the middle east that explains
its presence there, but without good middle eastern typing I
cannot rule that out.
Here is another thing, in the context of the iberian, basque,
Irish, cornish, norse continuoum it appears to be absent. This
indicates that it did not come via north or west africa as other
haplotypes that have come from this region are typically found
in these peoples. Therefore it is consistent with movement into
europe from the east earlier, however it is not consistent with
movement into the basque, but more or less moves into the
subaustrian/italian/southeastern france region. A*0401 B*0402 is
a hard call, however without the Ainu it is an impossible call
because this is the only population that bridges the frequency
in mexico with that in europe.
Likewise do you see in L1a mtDNA types in the Basque, how
about 'adam' Y. I think we can agree that the !kung did not
contribute this directly to eastern asia. Besides, if they had
done so it would have had to be ~20 kya.
