This was discussed before here, it turns out the mtDNA agrees
with the fact it is a chimp.

You know if some one said that they spotted a dog that weighed
200 lbs or a chihuahua, no one just up to claim new species. You
can't make a judgement about a species based solely on one form
of morphological variation.
