Use of fire by "other" hominids?

I was told once that the first evidence of the deliberate use of
fire is about 500,000 years old. Supposedly the ancestors of
Flores man became isolated on their island 800,000 years ago.
Yet, the articles seem to claim that they had fire. So, did they
invent fire on their own, or learn it from another homonid that
came along later? Which species have been known to use fire?
