Gug. I have just looked at it, and you are definitely more right
than they are.

There is nothing like enough data for chimpanzees to estimate
whether they are more or less likely to be eaten by leopards
than monkeys, nor whether this would be a smaller or larger impact
on their reproduction. The way in which he performs regressions
using such unreliable data is definitely bad practice, too.

The anecdotal report of a leopard avoiding noisy groups of
chimpanzees is precisely what you would expect, especially where
the groups are so large, and is precisely what leopards did with
humans and cattle. A leopard will jump into the middle of a group
of (small) monkeys, but will attack only isolated humans, cattle
or chimpanzees and perhaps seize one at night (not observed in
that research).

Nick Maclaren.
