Evolution created life with no plan in mind: discrepancies in the
replication of dna result in the alteration of a life form. If not
immediately fatal (most of the time it is), whether the mutation is
ultimately benefical or harmful to the life form is determined by a
large number of dynamic environmental factors. Such a cold and
unpredictable process by which all life is formed and goverenment seems
to leave no room for things such as morality.
It is without a doubt that this universe lacks an emperical
moral/ethical code. Most of today's moral/ethical codes are derived
from pure dogma, imagination, religious conjecture and opinion and will
not suffice in harmoniously facilitating all life on this planet.
Currently, we are light years away from such an ideal. But I do know
that a clearer and more definative understanding of the evolution, from
the first string of pre-cellular DNA to the encephilization of our own
grey matter will aid in at providing us with the first steps to
creating such moral guidelines.
This is one of the main reasons I feel a proper understanding of
evolution and modern science is needed amoung the general public. So
that a foundation for such a standard may be built.
This topic is pretty open ended at this point and it would be possible
for me to branch off into a number of directions concerning the pros,
cons and the feasibility of such an Idea. but my eye is twitching and
I've got work in the morning, so I'll end it right here. I welcome any
comments.
