Why not convergent big toe? Well, I am 43 years old (soon to be 44),
and I vitnesed this all. The whole thing started with casting of Lucy's
foot. They sort-off, wanted to recreate Lucy's foot, and they made a
casting. In that time Apiths were looked on as half-apes. You know, long
hair and all this. So they made a casting with really long toes, just like
apes have. This always looked unrealistic to me, since footprints looked
very human-like. But, this didn't fit into prevailing scenario, so they
forced the issue, a little bit. This tells enough about how scientifical
whole PA actually is. Later I found out that the same woman that made that
casting, was involved in some other similar things, which were also of
suspicious value.
So, during past few decades there were a lot of attempts to present
"evidence" that Apiths are half-apes. This is one of them. And now everybody
is surprised, "look at this, Lucy has convergent big toe". It is not pun
directed to you DD, you did the really right thing emphasising this issue.
Everybody else is trying to hide this, and acting like "We never said that
this big toe isn't convergent. Who is claiming that we ever said that, is
imagining things.". But, actually, this missconception of Apiths with
non-convergent big toe should never seen the light of day. It is just a
fabrication of PA. It was never based on some hard facts. The whole view of
Apiths as half-apes is just a fabrication. Apiths are like us. -- Mario
