Close enough.

Close enough.

They are roughly as old as the hominid/chimp split
except Dryopithecus. If I understand you correctly,
you believe that some or all of them are our
ancestors, but Apiths are not our ancestors.

David Pilbeam used to believe that Ramapithecus
and Dryopithecus were our ancestors, but now
he is not sure if this is true.

The pace of the evolution is not constant.
Sometimes it preserves living fossils. Sometimes
it jumps. Spear hunting was a revolutionary skill
that almost instantly transformed Apiths into Homo.
The same thing happened to Ashkenazi Jews in medieval
Europe -- they quickly evolved into the smartest
human race because dumb Jews perished and smart
ones prospered. The incredible evolutionary
pressure on the first spear hunters explains the
substantial differences between the last Apith
and the first Homo.
