Hominids began to evolve in a monsoon habitat.
Which is very different from the typical tropical
(rainforest) habitat. The main difference being,
of course, a severe dry season.

These are very, very good questions, Paul. And I have some very, very
good answers (which, BTW, I've already provided in previous posts).
But, unfortunately Paul, to understand my answers you have to have a
more sophisticated understanding of climate and changes thereof than
you've indicated up to this point. Toward the end of helping you out
with this let me ask you some questions so that I can assess your
understanding of climate and climate change.

1) Do you know what a Hadley cell is? How many Hadley cells do we have
on this planet currently. How many did we have, let's say, 10 mya?
Was there a shift in Hadley cells? When did this occur?

2) How would you describe the change in climate on this planet over the
last 50 million years?

3) How would you describe the shift in habitat (not climate) on this
planet over the last 50 million years. When did contintental
glaciation begin. Is there any kind of causal relationship that you
might theorize between the beginning of continental glaciation
(including the poles) and the shift in Hadley cells?

By answering these questions I'll have a better understanding of how I
can best explain to you the climatic assumptions of my hypothesis.

Jim
