My guess would be that salt and sugar usually come from
two different sources.
Two tastes that good together, are sweet and sour.
Sugar and acid frequently come from the same source, fruits !
Bitter tastes come from alkaloids, which are frequently poison.
.... and those are the four tastes of the tongue.
Sugar goes good with everything really though.
Candied yams and candied hams are both good.
I'll tell what I do think though, and my older twin brother,
pete Vincent, has a similar opinion:
There's esentially two flavors that flowers have,
one is garbage, the other is perfume,
depending on whether or not flies are supposed to be the primary
pollinaters.
People have various opinions on foods they like
and foods they don't like, favorite colors, etc...
BUT everyone who has a working nose,
enjoys the smell of flowers,
and there is no variation on this.
The smell of flowers doesn't make you hungry,
it just makes you want to stick you nose into the flower
and inhale.
I think this trait, of liking the smell of flowers,
goes all the way back to the begining of the primate line,
when our ancestors were tiny pollinators.
