"All of the Aleut-Inuit D sequences belong to different sub-groups than
the Amerind kind. They were, then, likely brought to the New World
via a different migration i.e. the one which gave rise to the Dorset.
The few Haida and Nuu-Chah-Nulth haplogroup D sequences were of the
Amerind type. "
hi, Gisele,
I think you told me this once before, and meant to do a search on
this group before asking, but so much easier to just ask again.
Thanks.
I couldn't help noticing that all of the Asian bottle gourd DNA
sequences which were compared (reference below) were all from the
south. Japan was mentioned in the article but no Japanese sequences
were included in the supplementary data. A couple were included in
the other study concerning the origin of the Polynesian bottle gourd
but I can't relate the sequences of one study to the other.
PNAS 2005 102: 18315-18320;
An Asian origin for a 10,000-year-old domesticated plant in the
Americas
David L. Erickson, Bruce D. Smith†, Andrew C. Clarke, Daniel H.
Sandweiss
, and Noreen Tuross "
And I found from a search that the seed can survive several months
with the gourd floating in the water - which I more or less remembered.
So I need to look at the currents , but the question is, how long has
it been in the Americas.
Regards
John GW
