The last major change in neurophysiology happened more than 100kya,
probably 150kya, as it affected the entire species, and they've
been split up into groups without contact for most of that intervening
time. What has happened everywhere during that time is the increased
accumulation of cultural knowledge that the prior change to our
brains has allowed. It took tens of thousands of years to build
up to the point that it started to have effects that left traces
we can find. Note, by the way, that the earliest indications of
artwork associated with AMH is dated ~70kya in southern africa.
