Dry conditions

(As a follow up to what I discussed with DD about savanna),
regarding rock climbing, ungulates, hooves, and things, I am reading about
this, so that I can answer your post. I've read one interesting thing about
differences between browsers and grazers, differences between their food;
grass and wood. Grass has short roots, wood has deeper roots. Regarding dry
habitat (you wrote something about this), wood can better cope with this.
Grass, because of its short roots, need water to be close to surface. IOW,
savanna is maintained by human fire, and not determinet by dry conditions.
This is why at the edge of savanna rain forest regains, if they forbid
humans to set fires. This is why there wasn't the development of grassland
before humans started to set fires. -- Mario
