If humans become extinct, spear making chimps will
probably venture into open savanna, hunt baboons,
and dig tubers with the spears.

If chimps are smart enough to make spears, the
earliest hominids, including Australopithecus
anamensis were smart enough to make spears. This
means that we cannot understand human evolution
unless we understand the evolution of tools that
were used between 5 mya and 3 mya.
