You don't remember correctly. You only imagined such a thing. I have
cited at least two references so far.
Dunno if they avoid
water, but I don't think so.
I trapped MB when I was a kid, we had them on our property and we
lived miles from any lakes or streams. They can dig down to water.
Where I lived it only rained about 40" a year, but it could drizzle
for a month at a time, water off the leaves and mud puddles would be
an easy source for them. The water table was about 12 to 15 feet, well
within their digging capability if needed.
The point is, there is nothing semi-aquatic about these creatures.
PS, I'm going out on the blistering hot savanna this weekend, how much
water do you think I will need? Will a thousand gallons be enough?
