What a laugh! These were Homo.sapiens -- the same species as you and me. Like us
they were naked. They had naked infants.
They had no clothes and no blankets. They
may have had fixed shelters (although most
PA people would doubt that) but they
certainly had no portable shelters -- i.e.
decent tents. Yet YOU and all the other
PA dolts believe that they wandered about
the bleak highland deserts, sleeping outside
in the cold -- and somehow made a good
living at it.
Here on the Maine coast there are many waterside sites that were occupied by the Red Paint People. These people moved to south facing sheltered coves in winter and lived on shellfish, lobsters and some fish. The waterside residence was strictly seasonal and in spring they moved inland to other sites. The evidence suggests that these people returned to the same south facing coves year after year and left some impressive shell middens. These locations clearly are warmer and less wind-blown in winter and skin and brush enclosures were sufficient for survival. More recently indians occupied some of these sites in winter until the colonial period. If you study these sites in winter you will find that they were carefully chosen for their marine resources and their microclimate... winter camping at these sites is entirely reasonable, I've done it a few times. I see no reason that ancient Homo could not have survived in similar fashion.
