I'm sure their eggs were collected by coastal people, just like the
turtle eggs and seabird eggs. The eggshells (and/or seashells) were
probably used to transport seawater to inland people in dugouts,
similar to Bismarck island inland people that used bamboo containers
to transport seawater inland to keep them healthy.
