Use your brain. Do you think predators are stupid enough to swallow a rock?

A crocodile certainly would. So would a shark,
e.g. a great white. Many strange things have been
found in their stomachs. I have no direct experience
of terrestrial carnivores, other than dogs, but they
certainly 'wolf down' their food. In the wild they
have to. They don't chew it -- unless it is a large
bone. I can see no reason why a hand-axe wrapped
in say, liver, would not be swallowed.
