I've been somewhat sceptical of claims for the enormous strength of
chimpanzees. A figure of a seven-fold difference from humans is often
quoted but I don't know where it comes from. A couple of years ago I did
a Google search and came up with only one report: a study of chimp
strength done at the Bronx zoo in 1924. I still think it may be an urban
myth.
