Sounds good... but it doesn't take into account the threat coming from
real Americans who travel to other countries and bring these infectious
diseases back with them. We would need to require people who spend
more than a week overseas be quaranteened upon arrival in the United
States to ensure they aren't carrying anything. Three days should be
enough. Oh and then there's the border with Canada: it will have to be
sealed with a fence and barbed wire and regular patrols. People trying
to get in or out will have to be shot: otherwise it would mean placing
too much of a burden on our health care system. Eventually we would
want to ban all international flights altogether. Americans currently
living overseas would have to be given notice of this change so that
they could leave their homes in their adopted country or else find
themselves completely unable to ever return to the United States. Once
these changes come into effect, neither they nor tourists nor would be
immigrants or refugees would ever be able to go to the United States.
Mind you, who would want to anyway? Indeed, the problem would solve
itself as the conservatives turn the United States into such a strictly
controlled police state that nobody would want to live there anyway.
